                              Modesitt's period in France

John Modesitt lived in a small French village populated with no more than 20 inhabitants during the summers with his family. In this time period (2000-2005), John Modesitt produced a number of scenes of the surrounding country. The paintings reflect the influence of Pissarro, Sisley, and Monet. Modesitt often visited the studio of Renoir that was nearby. His paintings of that time period paved way for his more bold and imaginative Native American paintings Those paintings retain the foundation of the Impressionistic influence he sought but added an element of the "west".

'There is a sense that you have gone back 100 years in this unspoiled village. It is a painters paradise. All motifs are walking distance. The river runs through the property so cooling off is a delight. If you have the energy you can row to town to buy a baguette!"......John Modesitt 2001
